A jury decided Thursday Jorge Torrez should face death for the death of a navy petty officer in her barracks room. That murder happened four years after the girls' murders.
Torrez was already serving 5 consecutive life sentences for the abductions and rapes of other women. He still faces trial for the stabbing murders of Laura Hobbs, formerly of Wichita Falls, and her friend Krystal Tobias in Zion, Illinois in 2005.
Laura's father, Jerry Hobbs, was charged with those murders even though DNA from the scene did not match Hobbs. He was freed after 5 years after DNA from semen on his daughter's body was matched with Torrez, who was a family friend of the Tobias family and lived just blocks from the murder scene.
Jerry Hobbs returned home to Wichita Galls in 2010 after finally being released from jail. Hobbs always maintained police forced his confession.
