Wichita County Sheriff's Office says a man is dead of an apparent suicide after being due in court for an injury to a child charge.

Sheriff's officials identify that man as 26-year old George Rodriguez.

According to an affidavit, in November of 2012, staff at a Wichita Falls school become concerned when they found bruises on a five-year-old girl's face and neck. The girl told them and a CPS caseworker that Rodriguez had hit her with a belt.

Authorities say the child had severe bruising on both sides of her buttocks area, and the back of both thighs down to her knees. They say the girl also had welts on the back of her right thigh. Officers say Rodriguez told them he didn't realize he spanked the girl that hard and that he was sorry.

Rodriguez was suppose to be in 78th District Court Tuesday, but sheriff's officials say a deputy was patrolling around 1:30 this afternoon and saw a vehicle parked halfway on Hammon Ranch Road with a man slumped over the steering wheel.

Officials say the man inside was Rodriguez who had died from an apparent self inflicted shot from a rifle.  Sheriff David Duke says a note was inside the vehicle, but they are not disclosing its contents.
