Rusty Williams was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an incident that happened in October 2011 in the 800-block of Gerald in Wichita Falls.
Court records show Williams grabbed a woman by the throat, began choking her, and slammed her against a wall.
Williams then used a pocket knife to cut the woman on both arms.
While the victim declined to press charges, the state went ahead and prosecuted.
Williams' attorney asked that his client serve probation instead of prison time, but that was denied.
Assistant District Attorney John Gillespie says Williams' sentence sends the message that there's no excuse for domestic violence, even as we're in the holiday season.
