Man in Sexual Assault Trial Who Was Originally Offered Probation is Now Going to Prison

A trial comes to an abrupt end this morning after a jury and two alternates listened to two days of testimony. An Iowa Park man decides to accept another plea offer instead of putting his fate in the hands of that jury.

Daniel Jordan faced 2 to 20 years for indecency if found guilty. The victim was 11 at the time and testified Wednesday and Thursday. Prosecutors had offered Jordan a plea deal of adjudicated probation before the trial began, but said Jordan turned it down.

But before testimony began this morning, Jordan and his attorney went into conference, and came out and accepted a new plea deal but this one was for 10 years in prison.

"Plea bargains are based on time and circumstance and at one point there was an offer, potentially. Had probation on the table but as the case proceeded along we felt another offer might be more appropriate." Bret Benedict, Asst. DA.

Jordan had requested if found guilty that the jury set punishment.
