Man out of jail after being arrested in relation to shooting

WICHITA FALLS - A man is out on bond after Wichita Falls police say he was arrested in relation to last week's shooting at a downtown apartment complex.

Liam James Maloney is charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Last Monday, Wichita Falls police were called to the Plantation Apartments about 8:30 p.m. Once they arrived, they found an 18-year-old man and a 27-year-old man with gunshot wounds, one shot in the lower back, the other in the right thigh. The man who was shot in the thigh told police he knew who shot him as a man he knew by an alias.

During the investigation, authorities linked that alias and found him, his brother and Liam Maloney. All three said that they were at the apartment complex the night of the shooting.

When officers were able to speak to the other victim who had been shot in the lower back, he said that he set up a drug deal with the other victim and that they planned to take the drugs without paying. He told investigators when he took the drugs and tried to run away someone in the back seat stood up and shot them both.

Upon further investigation, the driver of the truck corroborated their story saying he and his brother had nothing to do with the shooting but said Maloney shot them.
