Man Pleads Not Guilty in Sexual Assault and Indecency With a Child Case

 

Jury selection  will continue tomorrow  for the trial of 60-year-old Clarence Swegheimer for several counts of aggravated sexual assault and indecency with a child. 

This morning, attorneys made final motions and Swegheimer made a plea of not guilty.

 The defense requested the jury determine punishment if he is found guilty. Jury selection then got underway at 1:00 pm.

In this trial guilt or innocence will be determined on 3 counts of indecency with a child by contact and 3 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

8 additional of assault or indecency that were filed after the original charges will be dealt with later.

Last Friday, one of the two victims testified in 89th District Court about continuous abuse from when she was 10 to age 12.  She said the abuse occurred in numerous places, including Swegheimer's is truck and on long walks.

The other girl gave Patsy's House interviewers specific details of incidents she says began when she was in the 1st grade.

70 people have been summoned for jury selection  which is taking place in the larger 30th District Courtroom.

Swegheimer remains in jail on more than a million dollars bond.
