Many Texas, Oklahoma counties remain in burn bans and drought conditions worsen

WICHITA FALLS - As of Thursday, there are 122 Texas counties and 57 Oklahoma counties under a burn ban.

Nine of the burn bans in Texas are in Texoma, and those are Wilbarger, Baylor, Throckmorton, Archer, Clay, Jack, Montague and Wise.

The following counties are under a burn ban in Oklahoma: Jefferson, Stephens, Cotton, Comanche, Tillman, Kiowa, Jackson and Harmon.

Last month, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin issued a burn ban for 40 counties across the state but that expires next Fri., February 16 at midnight.

The last time we had measurable precipitation in Texoma was January 7. These drought conditions are starting to spread far across North Texas.

The updated drought monitor was released Thursday and the extreme drought conditions are spreading out even farther into Texoma.

The extreme area is now covering most of Wichita County and into the northern part of Archer County. Counties to our east remain in severe drought conditions.
