"Baby was due in April. And, February 28th of 1996 things got very interesting very fast. And, we wound up with Ryan being born 6 and a half weeks early, at Wichita General Hospital which is now United Regional," Pat explained.
Pat says there were plans in the works to have little Ryan transported to Cook Children's Medical Center, but because of Children's Miracle Network and the equipment already in Wichita Falls, they were able to start their family here and not separate during such a difficult time.
"Kelly was very ill with some of the medical conditions she had prior to Ryan being born," Pat said.
"Children's Miracle Network had the equipment that was necessary. Really, undeveloped lungs at the time was the biggest issue we had, and they had the proper respiratory equipment. Nurses that were properly trained. Doctors that were properly trained at United Regional to where we were able to stay, and we're very fortunate. Very fortunate," said Pat.
"Next year I plan on going to Midwestern and hopefully majoring in pre-PT, unless something changes. I want to be a physical therapist," Ryan said.
"We started out at a very scary time with a very small baby who is obviously grown up into a fine young man 18 years later, and we're just very excited about what the future holds for Ryan," Pat told us.
"Because of the donations made by Children's Miracle Network, our son, Ryan is a happy, healthy young man with a bright future ahead of him," Kelly said.
