Brent Benefield's mother was among those who testified.
She said her son always had a very good disposition and described him as laid back.
She testified for the defense in Benefield's trial for injury to a child causing the 2012 death of his four-month-old son Lucas.
He's also accused of continuous violence against his second wife, Sarah Price, who's Lucas' mother.
Benefield's mother said she never saw or heard of her son being violent.
She testified she saw her son and Price argue a couple times but there was never a physical element to those disagreements.
She said after Lucas was born, Price seemed depressed and withdrawn and didn't talk much.
Benefield claims Lucas' death was caused by Price, who was suffering from postpartum depression.
A number of other character witnesses were called to the stand, including Benefield's first wife.
During cross-examination, prosecutors asked each witness if they were aware that Benefield admitted to a third-party that he harmed Price while she was six months pregnant with Lucas, that he cussed at her when she was seven months pregnant because she wanted to take a nap, and that the couple's house was unkempt, which investigators testified was a sign of neglect.
Each witness testified they were not aware of those circumstances.
Medical experts previously testified they found multiple bleeds in Lucas' brain, multiple fractures, and hemorrhages in both eyes.
A doctor who testified for the defense, though, said it's possible the child could have died of a blood clot in his brain.
Testimony in the trial is expected to resume Tuesday morning.
