This morning councilors approved a resolution to purchase an artificial turf system for the Kay Yeager Coliseum.
MPEC officials hope to attract indoor soccer, football and lacrosse teams and tournaments.
Which is why they chose a multipurpose turf.
“What we're looking at is something that can do arena football as well as soccer, really any kind of activity that takes place on a turf system and it referenced out well, you know the people that use it right now are buildings like ours that have arena football, have soccer and they all gave it good reviews,” says Bob Sullivan MPEC Executive Director.
The turf is expected to cost around 100 thousand dollars.
The MPEC recently purchased a new electronic scoreboard, that cost over 800 thousand dollars.
They expect to start construction on it in a few weeks and will have it in place by mid August.
