MSU Carillonneur Shares his Music with the Community

- Dozens of people in Wichita Falls enjoyed the bells ring all Sunday afternoon at Midwestern State University.

Visitors were invited to grab a chair and relax on the lawn of the Hardin Administration Building to enjoy a special performance on Sunday.

James Quashnock plays MSU's 37-bell Redwine Carillon weekly.

He was awarded the Associate Carillonneur Certification from the Guild of Carillonneurs of North America this year.

Quashnock's program includes well known tunes such as "Edelweiss" and "Give My Regards to Broadway."

He says he enjoys being able to share his music with the community.

"I like to have them come here just to know that someone actually plays it. That it's not an automated instrument being played by a computer somewhere, that is actually is a person playing it," Quashnock says.

Quashnock says there are fewer then 200 carillons in the United States that meet the definition set by the GCNA, and 13 of those are in Texas.
