And though MSU lost out in obtaining state funds for major improvements in the last legislative session, leaders still must plan for those future needs.
MSU officials are looking to create a strategic master plan of the campus and areas that need improvement.
But the president says two urgent needs have already been identified.
Flipping through books is becoming a thing of the past in today's university libraries.
MSU officials say while Moffett Library may still look great on the outside, inside, is outdated and student Keaira Woolfolk agrees.
"Now I have to come to the library to look up this book whereas I could have been at home and looked it up online or at least seen if they have it versus having to search through it," Woolfolk says.
Dr. Jesse Rogers wants to replace the library but that's not all.
"Our use of information technology and everything from recruiting to bookkeeping is changing rapidly. We need a better building that has better security and in better condition than the I.T. Building," Dr. Rogers says.
Dr. Rogers says the regents understand the need to improve the campus to fit today's technology.
That's why during this week's meetings regents agreed to focus on improving the campus for future students.
That's why they're devising a strategic master plan.
"This master plan is really necessary so that we put in priority order those changes on the campus that we need most to react to curriculum needs and to react to information technology needs and information needs," Dr. Rogers explains.
And with changes could come a whole new look to the campus.
"I think you could see maybe fewer parking lots and more trees and more parking around the campus. You're certainly going to see more dormitories," Dr. Rogers adds.
And knowing how difficult it can be to win funding, regents will prioritize the most pressing needs, such as a new library.
And those needs could be ready for regents to vote on in May.
