Muenster High School Student Dies Following Single Car Crash

A Muenster high school athlete is dead following a car wreck Saturday morning. It happened in Cooke County just before 6:40 am.

17-year-old John "Cal" York was driving north on FM 373 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car, flipped it and was ejected from the car.

DPS troopers said he was transported to Muenster Memorial Hospital and then to Denton Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

York was a member of the recent state championship basketball team and son of the Muenster High School Principal.
There is a student assembly for grades 7 through 12 today at 8 am. There will also be grief counselors and pastors on hand at the school throughout the day.
