Natural Gas Shut Off in Jacksboro

Residents in one Texoma town are in a difficult situation, as natural gas has been shut off because of water in the line.
The problem in Jacksboro also forced students at school to be dismissed early and has many residents without heat.

Jacksboro ISD officials say their campus cannot get heat.

The school made the announcement Thursday morning and requested students to be picked up early.

Jacksboro Superintendent Dennis Bennett explained, "About 8:15 we were getting reports that we were getting gas outages at each of the campuses. So immediately we contacted Texas Gas Services and we realized there was a problem with the service coming in."

Many residents in Jacksboro are also without heat because of the water in the lines.

For those in need of heat, warming stations are set up at:

Jack County Fair Barn & Twin Lakes Activity Center
1114 St Hwy 59

FNB Scarbrough Center
203 S. Main Street

Texas Gas Service has responded with the following letter:

(Austin, TX) - This morning we started receiving calls from Jacksboro residents. Due to liquids entering our distribution system, we are having to shut down our system in Jacksboro, approximately 1,200 customers, for the safety and security of our customers.

We are working to restore natural gas. We are mobilizing extra crews from around the state of Texas as well as our sister company in Oklahoma, Oklahoma Natural Gas, in an effort to restore natural gas service just as soon as natural gas is restored to our system.

We also are bringing in CNG (compressed natural gas) trailers to provide natural gas service to the hospital and assisted living facilities.

We are mindful of the cold conditions and we are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore our distribution system in Jacksboro. We apologize for this inconvenience.

The City of Jacksboro is setting up relief centers throughout the town.
