But a new book takes a look at the reverse of that, spotlighting Texoma's effect on the oil industry.
"Deep Impact: The History of Oil and Gas in North Texas" chronicles the stories and the big players of the industry.
It contains narrative history of the oil and gas industry, going back to the first discoveries on the Waggoner Ranch in the 1900's.
The book's author says this area has had an immeasurable impact on the industry, which he says grew legs in Burkburnett.
Lee B. Weaver, author and historian, says, "The most important, long-lasting activity in the history of the world began in Burkburnett. It shaped where the industry was formed, how it was born, how it came to maturity, and how it exists today."
All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
