New Produce Stand in Duncan

A new vegetable stand opened in Duncan Oklahoma just a few days ago and is run by a former truck driver.
Floyd Carter has been growing his own vegetables for about four years with some help from his wife, but after a health scare and then retiring from being a truck driver, he opened a vegetable stand based on the honor system.
Carter drove more than one million miles in his truck driving career but that all came to a screeching halt after he got pneumonia.
“I was in Denver and I had pneumonia and I contracted the H1N1 virus,” Carter said. “I lost 37 pounds in seven days trying to get home. They gave me five days to live and the doctor kept saying you are going to get worse and you’re going to die. I said I feel like I’m getting better. He said no, no, no you are going to get worse and going to die. Well he gave me five days to live seven years ago.”
He does not use any chemicals on the plants he grows and that idea came to him because of something he saw while out on the road
“As I was driving through North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and into Kansas,” Carter said. “It was 600 miles and they were spraying corn on both sides. It was like and ocean of corn on both sides. I got to noticing I never got a bug on my windshield and I saw no birds. I thought we are in trouble.”
Floyd said he can’t tend his crops and be able to sit at the stand all day so the produce is out near the road and he trusts people to pay for it
“I just felt like I really wanted to trust people, Carter said. “When I got sick the people of Duncan really came to my aid to help me and my wife. Just miracle after miracle from the people of Duncan.”
He may not have too much to pick from right now, but he plans to have plenty ready for his honest buyers in the near future.
The stand is located on Waterplant off of Elk and is open until about 7 each night. He said he can’t leave the produce out all night or the deer would eat all of it.
