New Taproom To Open Downtown

Over the past year, the Wichita Falls Downtown area has welcomed new restaurants and businesses, and very soon, A craft beer bar.

Ashley Wheeler spent some time at the half pint taproom and restoration hall and talked with the owners about restoring a beautiful and historic part of Wichita Falls history

Ashley spoke with the owners, they talked about the importance of keeping the character and charm of the building and making sure every piece is put together with heart.

Dent Keltner and Cynthia Doten had dreams of bringing a true craft beer bar to town and were drawn to everything the downtown area had to offer including the buildings.

"You can't recreate the brick walls and the atmosphere with the cost of today's materials and labor so we love the building and spent the last four years working on it and really looking forward to getting open."  Dent Keltner Co-owner Of Half Pint

They knew how important naming the building was and Keltner says they were surprised when the name just jumped out at them.

"When we were actually digging up the old plumbing in the building, got about four feet deep, we found a bunch of old whiskey bottles that had half pint wrote on them that were from,  well one of the manufacturers closed in 1936, so you know they've probably been there since the building was built and the workers were throwing their whiskey bottles in ground." Dent Keltner Co-owner Of Half Pint

Jeanette Charos has been watching the changes take place in downtown and says giving people options will continue to help downtown grow.

"We're seeing a lot of stuff open up in our core of downtown, which is really great. Having the Half Pint open just gives people more options and something to do."  Jeanette Charos Downtown Wichita Falls Development

Some businesses get a little nervous when they hear new competition is coming to town, but Cynthia only sees possibilities.

"Absolutely a good thing because we're not competition. We're bringing stuff downtown so it's more traffic coming down to everybody." Cynthia Doten Co-Owner of Half Pint

"We welcome anybody to come downtown. We would like to see bars, and restaurants, entertainment venues on.. in every building down here." Dent Keltner Co-Owner Of Half Pint

And with more and more buildings attracting businesses, your next destination could always be in walking distance.

"Lately on Fridays and Saturdays, you can kind of see people mingle from one place to another, so it's great having all the people walk around downtown and visiting all the places." Jeanette Charos Downtown Wichita Falls Development

The Half Pint Taproom and restoration hall is expected to open late this summer.

It's going to offer not only craft beer, but also brick oven pizza.

Dent Keltner also said that one of the first mayors of Wichita Falls actually built the building where the half pint taproom stands today.
