Patients at Kell West Regional Hospital suffering from osteoarthritis or any other knee injury may soon be able undergo a new procedure that may help them recover faster.
The innovative technology is called MAKOplasty, and Kell West is the first and only hospital in Texoma to use it.
It allows orthopaedic surgeons at Kell West to perform knee replacement surgeries without a complete knee replacement.
Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Steven Wilson say a surgeon controls a highly advanced, robotic arm system that uses computerized analysis of a patient's knee to perform the surgery.
Dr. Wilson says the procedure is less invasive.
"People find a much quicker recovery when they have a partial replacement so these people are actually up and moving , less rehab, less hospitalization and back to normal lifestyle in a very short time compared to a total knee replacement," Dr. Wilson says.
Dr. Wilson says many patients will qualify for MAKOplasty.
