The National Council of Boy Scouts of America voted Thursday on a resolution on whether to allow openly gay members.
Protesters on both sides of the issue lined the streets of The Dallas Hotel where the meeting was being held.
Opponents wanted the 14- hundred voting delegates to stick with tradition.
But members of "Scouts for Equality" argued the current polices are discriminating.
The scouts voted to lift the ban on gay scouts, but the ban on gay scout leaders remains intact.
Stan Murrow is the Scout Executive Director for the Northwest Texas Council and was at the meeting.
"The vote today was a calumniation of a four month discussion of the scouting family. We knew there would be some people who agree with it and some people who didn't. Fourteen hundred delegates voted from across the nation and they voted to pass the resolution, that's what it's gonna be," says Murrow.
Stan says he's not sure how this will affect Texoma troops.
It wouldn't go into effect until next year.
