The police officer who was recently involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of the victim has previously been involved in a shooting.

Officer Poole is an award winning, 21 year veteran of the Wichita Falls force who himself was shot in a previous officer involved shooting. He has been awarded the Purple Heart, the Medal of Valor and a life-saving bar.

Back in February of 2004, three officers were shot, including Poole, during a forced entry narcotics search warrant on Avenue L. Poole was shot in the shoulder, another officer was grazed in the ear and a third officer was shot in his vest. All the officers recovered.

Police say the shooter, J.D. Jordan, opened fire when the officers broke through the door. Officers returned fire and Jordan was shot in the leg. He was later found guilty of 6 counts of attempted capital murder and was given a life sentence.

Poole received a Purple Heart award, and later was awarded a Medal of Valor from the combined law enforcement association. In 2011, he won yet another award, a life saving bar for performing CPR on 15 year old stabbing victim Jason Canava, who later died.
