Official: Tornado Victims Need Money, Not Items

Emergency officials say no more donations of supplies are needed in the Moore area as residents there are now overloaded with items.

Katrina Farmer, who's with the American Red Cross of North Central Texas, says she's been in contact with emergency officials in Oklahoma, and they say tornado victims in both Moore and Shawnee can benefit most from monetary donations at this point.

"They don't want any more items at this time," Farmer says.  "They're having to find warehouses to store stuff in.  They're having to take volunteers who want to help people and pull them away to sort out all these items and take care of all these items.  They're spending money to rent warehouses to store it all in.  The best thing to send is cash."

Here are some ways you can give money:

Text "REDCROSS" to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

You can text "STORM" to 80888 to make a $10 donation to the Salvation Army.

Or you can text "FOOD" to 32333 to donate $10 to the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank.
