OKC VA Officials Give Operations Progress Report at Fort Sill

While the FBI's Phoenix branch started a criminal investigation into allegations of excessive wait time at veteran's affairs facilities, VA officials from Oklahoma City were in Lawton giving a progress report on coverage in its medical center.
While those officials say operations within the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center resource area, which includes Wichita Falls, are not perfect they say they still provide veterans with good, quality care.

An investigation of the VA clinic in Phoenix uncovered dysfunctional practices.
And that had officials from the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center in Lawton giving a report of operations provided within its resource area.
Officials say the OKC VA Medical Center expects the number of vets treated to increase from more than 57,000 last year to more than 58,000 this year.
They said 95% of appointments are scheduled within 30 days of the desired date.
But overall, they gave the center's care, which many veterans from Wichita Falls receive, high marks.

"I'd probably say at least an A minus because we can always identify some areas that we can improve in. We're not perfect.  We never said we were perfect but we were always working toward perfection to make certain that our veterans are getting the best care possible," says Daniel Marsh, director of the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center.

As for the clinic at Fort Sill, they gave it a B+, saying they expect the rating to improve once several physician openings are filled.
And officials say care at the Fort Sill clinic is expected to improve soon.

"We are looking at adding clinic space here at the community based outpatient clinic in Lawton.  There's an addition that's has been approved.  It will start next year which will add 7,000 square foot of space to this clinic and we will soon be seeking new clinic space for Wichita Falls community based outpatient clinic," says Dr. mark Huycke, chief of staff at Oklahoma City VA Medical Center.
