The search for a new city administrator and police chief continues in Olney but starting on Monday, there should be a temporary administrator on the job.
Last night City Councilors approved hiring former Springtown, Texas Mayor and City Administrator, Doug Hughes as an interim city administrator for six months, while the search for a permanent candidate continues.
City secretary Tim Houston says Olney could have a new police chief too. He says four of the five candidates have been interviewed and after the last one is interviewed, the city council may interview two or three in person then select a finalist possibly by next week.
Last month former Police Chief Robert Cross resigned after being charged with making lewd propositions to a woman.
Hughes can begin work as interim administrator as soon as the background check is completed and his first day is set for Monday.
Hughes served as mayor of Springtown for about eight years when he was hired as city administrator in 2014. He resigned from that position last spring.
