MEGARGEL (KFDX/KJTL) - A man is in the Archer County jail after authorities said he ran which lead to a brief manhunt Monday afternoon.
An Archer County Deputy Sheriff went to check the welfare of a stranded male in Megargel, around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, after the office received a call about the man.
Authorities say the caller said a man had been riding a bicycle, but now had a flat tire and told him that he was trying to ride from Olney to Haskell.
The Deputy located the person near a business on Highway 114, in Megargel.
The man was identified as Jose Edgar Berzoza, 28, with an address out of Gulfport, Miss.
Dispatch advised Berzoza had several active arrest warrants out of Fisher County, Texas.
When the Deputy attempted to arrest Berzoza, he ran away.
Additional deputies and the Precinct 1 Archer County Constable arrived and created a perimeter.
Another deputy saw Berzoza running across a street and into a dense patch of Mesquite trees.
The deputy chased the man, until they reached a muddy pond where Berzoza jumped in and swam across.
The deputy drove back around the other side and again saw Berzoza and resumed pursuit through the thick Mesquites for several minutes, until he again lost sight of him.
State Game Wardens and Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers then arrived and further assisted.
At 2:32 p.m., Berzoza was arrested by Archer County Deputies after he was found hiding near a small stock tank in the same wooded area.
Berzoza was walked out of the woods, given water to drink and then transported to jail.
Berzoza was booked into the Archer County Jail on three Fisher County warrants for burglary of a habitation, failure to identify as a fugitive and evading arrest or detention and he is also locally charged with an additional evading arrest or detention.
Berzoza's bonds have since been set and total $20,000.
Wichita Falls police are investigating an early morning robbery.
