OSBI Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Altus

In Altus, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer involved shooting that happened early Monday morning.

Police were called to the 500 block of East Elm just after midnight for reports of gunshots. Investigators say a witness flagged down an officer and pointed out the man who allegedly fired the shot.

Officials with OSBI say the officer confronted the man who then reportedly pulled a gun from his waistband. They say the officer pulled out his gun and fired, as did a back-up officer. The suspect, 22-year-old Bruce Puente of Altus was shot at least once. He was flown to Oklahoma City Hospital for treatment.

The officers' names will not be released at this time. OSBI agents are working to make a report on the incident to deliver to the district attorney. The DA will determine whether the shooting was justified.
