Passengers Get Sneak Peek at Municipal Airport's New Jet Service

It's out with the old and in with the new at Wichita Falls Municipal Airport.

Since 2008, passengers have been shuttled between here and DFW Airport on a turboprop aircraft.

That plane's run at Municipal Airport was supposed to end tonight, but as Mechell Dixon found out, some passengers got to enjoy the airport's new jet service early.

Shortly after the clock struck 12 Monday an aircraft taxied down the runway at Wichita Falls Municipal Airport.

Although this American Eagle flight was expected it was still a big surprise that came early.

"The ATR's, or prop jets, are what have been flying in here in the past and now we're going to the ERJ-145," says Airport Administrator Leann Moran.

And this is that jet, more commonly called the R.J. for for regional jet.

A mechanical issued caused American Eagle to fly the new jet here early and passengers waiting to board were excited because many had harsh words about the turboprop aircraft

"Small. Bouncy. There's no room. You've got to scoot over cause there's no head room anywhere," says Passenger James Mellard.

While the new jet is still small it does have some big improvements over the A.T.R.

"It's a much smoother aircraft. It flies at a higher altitude. It's a better ride. Less turbulence," explains Moran.

Another big plus about this regional jet is that it allows passengers to board with two items... instead of just one.

Managers hope this new jet will pave the way for more people to fly the friendly skies between Wichita Falls and Dallas.

"You can park for a day. You can park for a week and it's $3 so it's gonna save you time. It's gonna save you gas. It's gonna save you money," says Moran.

Savings... passengers on this flight got to experience one day early.
