As the saying goes, the early bird gets the worm.
But this morning at the Downtown Wichita Falls Farmers Market it was the early birds who got to buy and sample a popular bean.
Today was black eyed pea day. However, shortly after the farmers market opened this morning the produce of the day quickly sold out.
Although many folks couldn't buy and take some black eyed peas home they did get to taste them.
Samples of black eyed peas and cornbread were passed out and went fast.
Thankfully Steve Young from the Charlie - Thornberry farming community says shoppers can expect to buy them here very soon.
"There is a new crop coming on so I think by next week you will see blackeyed peas up here on the market," he said.
In addition to a new batch of black eyed peas, next Saturday shoppers can listen to a live band while enjoying samples of watermelon on what is appropriately dubbed "Watermelon Day" at the farmers market.
