Performers Come Together for Andrew Duncan

- It's been just over four months since a Wichita Falls native, who touched the lives of many through his passion for the arts, lost his life in a tragic car crash.

Friends and family came together to honor Andrew Duncan's memory.

The event brought together all of the arts organizations Andrew was a part of, in hopes of giving someone like him the chance to go college.

It was a night filled with entertainment from some of Texoma's most talented performers to honor Andrew Raymond Duncan, a 20-year-old Wichita Falls native who was killed in an August wreck.

"We are really excited we have artists from numerous organizations around Texoma performing on one stage," said Kathleen Duncan, Andrew's mother.

Each performer, from the six groups at the event had a special tie to Andrew.

"We have artists from the Backdoor Theatre, the Wichita Theatre, Opera Breve, Actors Creating Together, Applause, Dance Etc., the Community Orchestra, Community Singers, and even a few folk from "Texas" which Andrew was a part of all of those organizations," said Duncan

Those in attendance were treated to several numbers from each group.

"We have an opera, we have a country western song, we have Broadway numbers, we have some worship songs, we have an A Capella Star Wars medley, we have all kinds of different things, basically a variety show and we are really excited."

The purpose of the event was apparent throughout: while Andrew will be missed, his memory will live on.

"It is so special to have all these people come together and express their love and admiration for him, but also its so cool to give an opportunity for all of these people to perform, Andrew would have loved to see all of these people work together," said Duncan.

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 1st.

There will be five $1,000 scholarships given to those who participated in the arts throughout high school, but who now want to branch out their talents into higher learning just like Andrew, who majored in both accounting and dance.
