Pets in Wichita Falls on the Loose After the Fourth of July

- Many of us enjoyed time with family and friends this weekend watching fireworks light up the sky, but the loud noises scared away a lot of pets in the area.

Representatives with the Wichita County Humane Society say they found several dogs wandering the streets this weekend and luckily those have been returned to their owners.

But director Cheryl Miller says yesterday alone she received more than twenty-five phone calls about missing or found dogs.

Miller says this is a problem every year.

"They can't really see it, they don't know what's coming and it just spooks them. It's loud and scary," Miller says.

Miller says if you're leaving your house on holidays like the Fourth of July or new year's, it's not a good idea to leave your pets roaming by themselves.

She says they've even seen dogs jump through windows because they're scared of fireworks noises, so it's important to make sure your pets are inside the house and in a kennel.
