A former employee-manager of a Wichita Falls pizza restaurant is charged with taking cash customers paid for items and then telling police he was only voiding out coupons given for free pizzas.
John Michael Boren is charged with theft over $1500 dollars. Police say the owner of Marco's Pizza on Maplewood reported he saw Boren on surveillance video taking money from the register.
He said Boren has access as a manager to use his personal key to zero out purchases, but still collect customers' money.
He said Boren was doing this and at the end of the night he would take the bank bag into the walk in refrigerator out of view of the camera.
The manager said he believes the restaurant lost almost $3,000 in cash and food given away in three months.
An officer who questioned Boren said that the adjustments were done because the store would hand out coupons for free pizzas and they had to void them out of the system.
And when told about the surveillance video that showed him taking cash, not coupons.. he said the adjustments could have been anything and quote, "He was maintaining his position on this for right now."
