Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting at a Wichita Falls apartment complex.
Wichita Falls Police Chief Manuel Borrego says Officer Chad Nelson, a 9-year veteran of the department, responded to a disturbance call at Highpoint Village in the 5500 block of Professional Drive just before 11 last night.
He says when Officer Nelson arrived, he heard a woman screaming from one of the rooms. Chief Borrego says the woman managed to open the front door, but as the officer tried to get her out they were approached by a man with a gun. Officials say Officer Nelson shot the man one time.
“The officer has been taken to the station as protocol and procedure. He'll go on some administrative leave during the investigation. As always in an officer involved shooting there will be an internal affairs investigation, at the same time a criminal investigation will also be run on the particular case involving the domestic disturbance involved in this shooting,” Chief Borrego says.
The suspect was taken to United Regional for surgery. The man's name is not being released at this time. Officer Nelson was not injured. We'll bring you more information as it becomes available.
