16 year old James Edwards said on August 16th last year he was in 17 year old Michael Jones vehicle who was driving north on Country Club Road. 16-year-old Chancey Luna was in the back seat.
Edwards said he was rolling a marijuana cigarette when Jones swerved the vehicle towards a jogger.
Edwards says from the quickness of the swerve he leaned left and then heard a pop sound coming from behind him. Edwards says he believes at that time Luna shot Christopher Lane.
Moments later he says the vehicle accelerated and turned left down Twilight Beach.
Edwards says Jones eventually pulled the car into parking lot.
He says there Luna handed the gun to Jones and Luna said to him, "I thought there were suppose to be blanks in there." Jones agreed saying, "Sorry me too."
Edwards says he never had any prior knowledge of the shooting before it happened and never touched the gun.
Edwards says he has met with the district attorneys office 3 different times. He says last night he met with them for 5 hours to go over his testimony for today's preliminary hearing.
For Edwards's testimony, an arrangement has been made for his charge of murder in the first degree to be dismissed. However a second charge has been placed on Edwards, accessory after the fact of first degree murder.
Edwards says he had two separate phone calls while in jail after the incident to a friend talking about "Ray Allen controller" which was a code to communicate about hiding the weapon used to kill the jogger, who was later identified as Chris lane.
Edwards says it's his understanding that the gun was hidden but he does not know where.
No arrangement of punishment has been made on how Edwards's new charge, accessory after the fact of first degree murder.
