Prosecution Rests in Hervey Murder Trial

Prosecutors rested their case in the murder trial of Willie Hervey today, after presenting evidence on the alleged murder weapon and bullet found in the victim's body.
A gun and ballistics expert from the DPS crime lab testified about how they determined a gun found in a home Hervey went to after the shooting was the gun that fired the bullet recovered from the victim's body.

Yesterday jurors heard graphic witness testimony about how 20-year-old mark Austin Hawkins was shot and killed at his home on river road on easter Sunday, 2014.
Authorities say Hervey was trying to buy marijuana from Hawkins, and they got into a fight over the correct weight.

A forensics expert told jurors Hawkins was shot in the left side under the arm pit.... and the bullet went through a lung, hit an artery, and kidney.

The defense will call their first witness for the 7-man, 5-woman jury on Monday morning.
