Q & A with incoming Bowie Mayor

The race for Bowie mayor was uncontested, with current Councilor Gaylynn Burris the only one to file.

KFDX spoke to incoming Mayor on Tuesday night.

Q: What has the last year been like, as part of the city council?

Gaylynn Burris: "Well, I didn't come in until June, but it has been a little crazy. Lots of people would like to see lots of change in the areas we don't have a lot of control over right now. But I think the elections will prove which way the city wants to go."

Q: What is one of the first things you would like to see accomplished in the city?

Burris: "I think mostly is transparency. I know that is a typical word for everybody to say. People want to be able to ask questions and get answers. I want to be able to help people get the answers that they need, not always what they want."

Q: What are some other problems you would like to address?

Burris: "One, right off the bat, I would like to take our city council meetings live again. I don't know how long it's has been since they've been live, but we will get more participation in the city. Simple things, like a Facebook live city council meeting. I would like to do that. I really want to bring our citizens in to helping us make decisions. Not just telling them the things that we need from them, but asking the things they want from us."
