Ranchers and Farmers Optimistic After Recent Rain

- Cattle ranchers and wheat farmers are feeling optimistic after recent rains.

Dozens of farmers and ranchers were at the MPEC Tuesday for the Cattle Trail Wheat and Stocker Conference.

The conference talked about the outlook for wheat and cattle this year and gave tips on how farmers can improve their crop chances.

“We want to provide information on how to make the best decisions for wheat planting and buying and selling stock or cattle when running stock or cattle on a wheat pasture,” says Stan Bevers, Professor and Extension Economist.

Bevers says the wheat crop is looking better than it has in 4 years because of the recent rains but the number of cattle is the lowest it has been since the 1950's, meaning meat prices are expected to stay high for a few more years.
