Wichita Falls, Texas -
A jury returns a guilty verdict for a man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl over the course of several years.
It took the 12 person jury close to three hours to convict 66-year-old Raymond Slagle on all five; three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child by contact.
Slagle had pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Slagle showed no emotion while the verdict was read by 30th District Court Judge Bob Brotherton.
During closing arguments on Tuesday morning, prosecutors asked the jury take the courage to convict Slagle for the assaults, just like the victim had courage to come forward and testify.
Prosecutors say Slagle knowingly kissed, touched, and fondled the victim to gratify his sexual desire.
The victim testified he made her feel nasty, horrible and worthless.
Slagle was convicted of sexually assaulting the victim over and over from when she was six until she was 11 and inappropriately touching another girl from when she was five until she was 9.
The defense had argued there was no DNA, scientific evidence and no eye witnesses to any of the assaults.
The defense says the victim's testimony was inconsistent and she was desperate for attention.
However, prosecutors say the victims have no motive to make this up.
Slage's bond was revoked and he was taken into custody.
The punishment phase is set to continue on Wednesday morning.
The defense is expected to start calling witnesses to the stand starting at 9:30 a.m. and Slagle is expected to be sentenced later that day.
