Making and launching rockets is one way 37 students spent this afternoon.
River Bend hosted a junior engineering program for kids ages 5 to 15.
In addition to rockets, kids also created a simple, electric circuit, made a hovercraft and tested their balloon cars.
While each project provided kids with lots of fun engineering interns from Alcoa Howmet say they also helped spark interest in math and science.
"In the U.S. It's not really harped upon to where it's very... we need to do this. So, we're trying to get more people interested. The more interest that's in it the more kids would like to do it and the more they'll work hard at doing it," says Ray Green, an Alcoa Howmet engineering intern.
This is the first time River Bend Nature Center has hosted this free, hands-on science event.
And they plan to do it again soon.
