The numbers are in and Wichita Falls Independent School District officials say a reading program that debuted last year was a huge success.

Read 2 Learn gives struggling second grade students a chance to read with a volunteer mentor each week.

The program was launched in October and aims to raise students' reading levels.

One-hundred ninety-eight children participated in the program last school year.

Of those, 68% were children who could not read on their own.

At the end of the year, 90% of participating children could read on their own.
