Recent Rains Bring Reminder to Dump Collected Water

Wichita Falls mosquito crews do not expect to see a lot of insects from showers from this past Friday but they are reminding residents of what they can do to help prevent the mosquito population from increasing.

Vector control officials say Friday's showers filled bird baths, flower pots and other containers that hold water around homes. And officials say mosquitoes will use that water to lay their eggs.

So they are reminding residents to dump and drain those containers to keep the mosquito population low. Officials say they have received several calls regarding mosquitoes in some neighborhoods.

And officials say residents ridding their property of standing water it will keep even more annoying insects from taking flight. As for West Nile cases, there are no new cases since the last positive case in mosquitoes on August 16th.
