Recent rain has created standing water around town that Wichita Falls mosquito crews are now watching closely. They're on the hunt for mosquito larvae so they can kill them with larvicide and keep them from taking flight.
Health officials say you can also help them in the fight against mosquitoes by not forgetting to cover your rain barrels.
"So, please put some screens on top of your barrels and filter that rain water before it goes into your barrels so we don't have more than we need to deal with," says Susan Morris, environmental health administrator for the Wichita Falls - Wichita County Public Health District.
Wichita Falls has confirmed one positive West Nile Virus case in a human this year but say the person contracted the virus while at college in Austin.
So health officials urge you to follow the Four D's to help reduce the mosquito population and your chances of getting bitten.
-Dress in long sleeves and long pants, stay indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active, use a mosquito repellent with Deet and dump and drain any standing water on your property.
