The auditorium of a local church was packed this morning as family and friends said goodbye to a man who spent more than three decades of his life working to keep our community safe.
Funeral services for retired Wichita Falls Police Department Major Gene Davis were this morning at the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls.
    Davis died unexpectedly Monday morning.
Former Wichita Falls Police Chief Dennis Bachman worked under Davis.
He says the city and the police department is better because of Davis' service.
"He was a leader and he expected from his officers what he expected of himself.  He was dedicated, and that's what it takes to get out there and do your job.  He wanted to make good in his community, and he did that," Bachman says.
Davis was instrumental in bringing motorcycle cops to the force, as well as starting the narcotics division and the crime stoppers program.
He's being laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park.
