"Renaissance of the Forum" Underway

- It's been part of this community since 1927.

It's a Wichita Falls landmark and a Texas Historic Landmark, and it's caretakers want to make sure it's part of our community for years to come.

So now, the Kemp at the Forum is getting a major facelift during Renaissance of the Forum.

"We knew when we obtained the building in May of 2010 that there was a lot that had to be done," Carlana Fitch, CEO of the Arts Council, says.

Dave Clark, chairman of the Kemp Center for the Arts, says, "It's a $2.4 million project. Funding has come from some of the local foundations and other foundations. The generosity of the citizens of Wichita Falls."

"The first big project was the removal of all the asbestos and that has just been completed this past week, so it's taken all this time to make sure we've gotten rid of all of that," Fitch says.

"they're working on the tile roof at the moment," Clark says. "The flat roofs have already been done and they've done the demolition on the interior, so it will look quite different on the inside than it has for years and years."

And once that's done, crews will be installing new walls, ceilings, floors, bathrooms, light fixtures, carpeting...you name it.

They'll also be adding a patio for outdoor events.

But the building's character will remain unchanged.

"The legacy of the Woman's Forum is something that we want to be sure remains alive and we want people for generations to come to know the history of the Woman's Forum," Fitch says.

The project is expected to be complete by the first of May.
