ARCHER CITY - Wells Fargo customers in Archer City will now either look for a new bank or drive into Wichita Falls for service.
The only Wells Fargo bank in town is now closed and the nearest one is more than 20 miles away, customers said it would be a bit of an inconvenience.
Wells Fargo customer, Leander Ward said, "If I try to go to the other bank here in town, they are going to charge me for cashing checks and it makes it difficult, it's 25 miles into the nearest branch now."
In July, Wells Fargo officials announced the closing of over 400 bank branches by the end of 2018.
Associate Vice President of Communications, Ruth Villalonga added, "These particular consolidations of the Archer City branch to the Southwest branch in Wichita Falls, we are hoping to be more efficient utilizing the knowledge and resources of our team to better serve our customers."
"I was surprised, I didn't know that was coming but they kind of warned and they sent us letters out, as soon as they could," longtime Wells Fargo customer, Melissa Graves told us.
As Graves pulled away from the branch she'd been visiting for a long time, she said she will continue her banking with Wells Fargo, even if that meant driving 30 minutes to do it.
She continued by saying, "I do bank at another bank here in town also but I have different accounts, I'll probably go to Wichita, I want to see these ladies some more."
Although it may be an inconvenience, Ward said he planned on doing the same.
Ward finished by saying, "I also have found out where what branch they're going to be going to and that's the branch I'm going to be using because I can go right back to them and continue on."
Something else Wells Fargo officials hope will appeal to customers who aren't quite so understand, online and mobile banking.
