Uber Makes A Move to Wichita Falls

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX) -- If you live in Wichita Falls, you can look forward to another ride sharing company to get get you around town.

As of 11:30 Tuesday morning, Uber is now open for business. It's another ride sharing option making its way to town.

These companies that are doing these types of things have really exploded and grown and it's very much a convenience to the customer," Texas State Sen. Craig Estes said. Thanks to new ride sharing laws, he says it allows services like Uber and Lyft to make its mark in cities such as Wichita Falls.

Chamber of Commerce President Henry Florsheim says ride share companies give people more access to the city.

"It takes us to the next level because no matter what sort of transportation tastes you have, or needs you have. We're going to be able to address those needs," Florsheim said.

As an incoming freshman at Midwestern State University, the service helps people like Omar Vazquez who doesn't have a car.

"Well instead of using my friends all the time, it'll definitely be a lot better," Vazquez said. "It's always better for the consumer to have more options."

Midwestern State student Keelie Ralston agrees. "I think it's a good asset to have, especially since we are like, in a college town."

"It's good to have definitely more than one option to choose from so that way you're not limited," Ralston said.

For students, airmen at the base, or just anyone stopping by Wichita Falls, Mayor Santellana says it's another safe option.

"It gives us options for different kinds of transportation as well as increase my safety value in town," Santellana said.

And with Uber joining Lyft and local taxi's, city officials say it's another way to keep Wichita Falls moving.

As part of their arrival, first time Uber users will receive a credit for their first rides. For more information about the ride sharing service, click here.
