It may not be hot enough to fry an egg on the road, but it's getting so hot some roads are beginning to buckle.

Crews today completed repairs on one lane of U.S. 287 at Oklaunion and will fix the other lane Monday.

The buckling happened Tuesday morning at the base of the bridge over railroad tracks near Oklaunion.

Buckling of roads is especially common where pavement of roadways and bridges meet, and often results when clay soil is contracting and pavement is expanding.

The northbound, right hand lane of 287 West of Oklaunion was closed after the buckling, and repairs were completed today.

Both lanes are now open.

But on Monday, the left hand lane will be closed for repairs.

It will probably be closed 3 days while the concrete cures.

Another roadway buckled in Lawton yesterday on Cache Road causing traffic jams as three lanes were reduced to one.

In both cases the roadways apparently buckled in the morning hours, after and before the heat of the day.
