Vernon received a federal pass through grant that will help pave some streets in town.
This will be the first time these roads in northeast Vernon have been paved, making a big difference for the residents there.
The grant comes from state income tax and Vernon had to compete with other Texas cities to receive the money.
“We're pretty excited about that about that, it's a bout a $318,000 project and a lot of those residents have never had a paved street, so it will be first time paving for them,” says Vernon City Manager Mitch Grant.
Paving the roads is expected to start and end in the summer of 2015.
