Sheppard Air Force Base officials say they'll be trucking in water to keep their pools open this summer.

Four pools are associated with the base will be trucking in water to keep them full.

To conserve water, officials decided to not drain those pools after last summer.

Three of the pools including the Main Pool, Bunker Hill Pool, and the housing area pool will be replenished with well water this summer.

Officials say they will not use city water for any pool functions.

George Woodward, public affairs director, says, "We have, at any given time, four- to five-thousand students on the base. They're 18, 19, 20 years old. Many of them are not from Texas. They're not used to this heat. It's a morale issue for us to be able to give them something to do, a way to cool off, and something to do in their off time."

They say they held off opening the pools until they had a plan in place to refill the pools without using city water.

Those pools are expected to open this weekend.
