Sepia

A Legacy in Photography

WICHITA FALLS - "Photography as we all know captures a moment in time",  Executive Director of the Wichita Falls Alliance for  Arts and Culture, Margie Reese said.

The Wichita Falls Alliance for Arts and Culture wanted to take you through different moments in history with their showcase of Sepia: A Legacy in Photography.

"Sepia was actually a magazine showing you who the icons were, where they were, what they were doing so that drew you in  to the life and time of America at that point," Reese.

A point where regardless the age or race, you found it easy to relate to.

"It really brought back many many memories and it made me realize how lucky we are to have had these people" spectator, Linda Wilbur stated.

Spectator Leslie Schaffner added "You see sports figures, you see musicians, you see actors and actresses, you see common people. You see military people, it serves the entire community ."

The exhibition features nearly one hundred black and white photographs amongst thousands owned by the African American Museum in Dallas and spans over nearly three decades.

"This is a powerful collection and we want people to understand that the arts are for everybody", Reese. "They can be interested in the performing arts, but story telling through photography, everyone resonate with that idea."

And its the first time residents in Wichita Falls have been able to experience an exhibition like this that features some icons they do know and some they don't---- it's the very first show outside of Dallas.

Schaffner also said, "Its about capturing that moment in time and I'm so excited it's in Wichita Falls"

So for a moment, let Sepia take you on  a journey through history and remind you that these icons were once people just like you and me.

"These icons no matter who, they are started out just as you and I, you know some kid with a curiosity and a dream, and look at all they've accomplished," Reese. "When you think about the history of this country, you know history is about the past that helps prepare us for the future"
