Serial rapist back in Wichita County Jail for hearing

WICHITA FALLS - A hearing over an appeal by a convicted serial rapist will resume soon.

47-year-old Michael Gowan was moved back to the Wichita County Jail from his prison Monday to await the next hearing, set for Jan. 18.

Gowan is seeking to have DNA analysis done on hair samples collected as evidence in the rape cases from the 1990s.

Prosecutors said they did not oppose the testing because they have no doubt that Gowan is guilty.

In the hearing last June, Gowan had also requested a new attorney.

The new attorney was denied by Judge Charles Barnard because he said Gowan's attorney is an experienced appeals attorney.

That attorney — as well as two previous — requested they be allowed to withdraw from the case.

Gowan has a history of acting as his own attorney and filing motions from prison.
