Services Set for Vernon Couple Killed in Wreck

Services have been set for a Vernon couple killed when their pickup went off the roadway and hit a pole.

DPS Trooper Tony Fulton says the wreck happened two miles north of Oklaunion around 4:20 a.m. Saturday.

He says 31-year-old David Steven Hawkins was driving a pickup south on US 70 when he swerved off the road into a ditch and then struck a utility pole.

Both Hawkins and his wife, 28-year-old Rachel Boatman Hawkins, both of Vernon, were ejected from the truck and were pronounced dead on the scene. Fulton says they were not wearing seat belts.

Steven was born in Wichita Falls and was a former employee of Sullivan Funeral Home. Rachel was an LVN at North Texas State Hospital.

The couple had 5 children.

A joint service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilbarger Street Church of Christ.

Visitation is Tuesday night at 7 at Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon.
